Asking Megapath to update the reverse DNS entry for your IP addr

Slave DNS service outside the collective, on ny2.streambolt.com

Ste maintains a friend's linux box, in a professional colo in Manhattan. As partial payment for this service, ste is allowed to configure the system to act as a slave DNS server for whatever domains he chooses, and therefore offers that service to members of the collective, free of charge. To make use of this service, you only need to do two things: 1) check your domain at http://www.dnsreport.com - making sure to correct all "fails" and all of the more serious "warnings", and 2) send an email request to ste, stating the domain to pull, and where to pull it from. It'll be handled promptly.

Be sure to list "ny2.streambolt.com" as a slave name server in your zone file(s) and with your registrar(s). Make sure your list of name servers are the same in both places, and in the same order.

DNS service with Megapath

Having megapath be a DNS slave (i.e. secondary)

Asking megapath to update the reverse DNS for your IP addr

Megapath controls reverse lookups for you IP addresses since our CIDR block is less than a /24. If the reverse lookups for you address needs updating:

• Send email to dns@megapathdslSPAMSUX.net
• Phrase the request as, "Hi! This email is to request that the reverse DNS lookups for 64.7.3.xxx be changed to something.something.something. Thank you! [Include your name, phone number and email address.]"
• There is no security on these requests. Ugh.

DNS service from joisey.whatexit.org

tal will gladly provide master (what used to be called primary) or slave (what used to be called secondary) DNS service on joisey.whatexit.org. He recommends that you have other servers that are outside of the collective.

There are a couple options. He'll gladly set it up on joisey, and if you need updates just send email to him. On the other hand, if you feel particularly astute with your DNS skills, he'll give you an account on joisey and you can do your own updates. Either way, he will do the initial configuration. Just send him the initial zone file or a list of hosts and IP addresses, etc.

DNS service from the 9srv.net server

The 9srv.net server can do master (what used to be called primary) or slave (what used to be called secondary) DNS service. Note: it the software currently can not do zone transfers from non-Plan9 server.

Send email to anothy for initial setup.

anothy will do updates, or you can request an account and do the updates yourself.

To do updates, edit /lib/ndb/USERNAME. That's it!
