How to pay your monthly share
You can send money to the current collective host via paypal, personal check, cash, bearer bonds, jewelry, fascinating items of technology, or numerous other means. When the host receives your payment, they will email a notice of receipt to the treasurer, who keeps track of balances.
Currently, the accounting is done offline in Quicken, because it's dreadfully easy for the treasurer. Paul has put together a web-based tracking
system, but since the Quicken method requires no work for anyone but the treasurer, there has been little impetus to install it.
How much do I need to pay?
You will receive a statement every month via email. This shows any charges and credits since the last month. While there are no strict requirements about how far ahead or behind your ballance can be, it makes us a lot less nervous if you keep it more than $50 (more than $100 is more than twice as good).
As of March 2005, the monthly charges are currently roughly $30, and the buy-in amonut is about $45. This reflects a monthly bill from Megapath of $327.25 (which isn't likely to change much anytime soon), and a hardware asset value of $516.96 (which drops a little bit every month, due to depreciation.)
